I was playing around with the viewshed tool, which demonstrates, based on elevation only, what parts of a particular area that you should be able to see from a single point. I experimented with this and created maps that showed the areas of DC that you should be able to see from our various fort sites, ignoring tree cover and buildings blocking views. Perhaps one of the things that we could consider for our interventions would be restoring the views between notable fort sites.
The maps, from left to right, are the viewsheds for Fort Chaplin, Fort Mahan, and Fort Reno. The areas in green are the areas that you should be able to see from the fort sites.
