1932 newsreel of the forts

by Molly

An interesting (silent) video that I stumbled across, made in 1932 to describe the park system plans for Washington, DC. The focus on the Civil War forts drive, in particular, begins at 9:15, and the footage offers glimpses of what the forts looked like 50 years after the war. Some (like Fort Stevens) have plaques, while others are as wooded and uninterpreted as today–proving that there has always been a hierarchy in perception of these sites and their significance.
